How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
About once a year for most households. Sooner if you dry bedding often, have a long duct run, share a home with shedding pets, or notice cycles creeping longer. Short, straight runs stay clear a lot longer than ones that climb through two floors.
Can I just use a leaf blower on the vent?
It moves loose fluff but leaves the packed, damp layer stuck to the duct wall, and that crust is what actually restricts airflow. Brushing the full length with the duct disconnected is what clears it. It also lets us spot damaged sections.
Is flexible foil duct a problem?
The ridges catch lint, and the material crushes easily behind the dryer. Rigid metal pipe with a short transition hose moves air better and stays cleaner. When we find long foil runs inside walls, we recommend replacing them with smooth metal.
Why is my vent full of water or dripping?
Cold ducts plus humid exhaust equals condensation, common in unheated Northwest crawlspaces and garages. The wet lint then cements itself to the pipe. Insulating the run, shortening it, or resloping so moisture drains outward usually fixes the drip.
Can a clogged vent hurt the dryer itself?
Yes. Trapped heat pushes thermal fuses, cycling thermostats, and heating elements past their limits. Many of the heat failures we repair trace back to a blocked duct. Clearing the vent protects the parts we just replaced.
Do you handle roof-terminated vents?
