Oven Repair — Book a Visit Today
An oven usually fails in small ways first. The roast takes twenty minutes longer. One side of the cookie sheet browns, the other stays pale. Then one damp Portland evening the bake element stops glowing at all. Common culprits are burned-out bake or broil elements, a drifting temperature sensor, a tired igniter on gas models, worn door hinges, or a control board that lost its mind. When we come out, we run the oven, read the sensor, check the door seal, and open the back panel to look at wiring and terminals. Then we explain what we found in plain words before anything gets replaced. We repair all major brands as an independent shop. Call us and tell us what the oven is doing.

The oven symptoms we hear most
- "Everything comes out raw in the middle" Weak or cracked bake element, failing temperature sensor, or a thermostat reading low
- "It says preheated but it's nowhere near" Drifted sensor resistance or a control board calling temperature wrong
- "The gas oven clicks and clicks, then nothing" Weak igniter that no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve
- "Broiler works, bake doesn't" Open bake element, burned terminal connection, or a failed relay on the board
- "Heat pours out the front and the handle is loose" Sagging hinges, crushed door gasket, or a separated inner door panel
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Look through the window during preheat and see whether the bottom element glows evenly orange or stays dark in spots.
- 2Close the door on a dollar-sized strip of paper and tug, if it slides out with no drag, the gasket or hinges are letting heat escape.
- 3Check that the oven is not stuck in Sabbath mode, delay start, or an active self-clean lock, since all three block normal baking.
- 4Reset the breaker for the range once, wait a minute, and see whether an error code clears or comes straight back.

After the visit, in their words
“Polite on the phone, polite at the door, and the laundry room was cleaner when he left than when he came.”
Earl D.Ontario, CA“Our cooktop had one dead burner for a year. One visit, all five working. Should have called long ago.”
Tess G.Lancaster, CA“They handled the warranty paperwork questions I could not figure out, then did the repair after it lapsed.”
Hank M.Salinas, CAOven Repair — quick answers
Why does my oven bake unevenly on one side?
Usually a weakening element, a fan that stopped circulating in convection models, or a door that no longer seals square. Racks and pan placement matter too. We test temperature at several points in the cavity before deciding what is actually off.
Is an oven that runs 50 degrees cool worth fixing?
Often yes. A drifting temperature sensor is a small part and a straightforward swap on most ranges. Some ovens also allow a calibration offset. We check the sensor reading against actual cavity temperature and go from there.
My oven smells like gas. What should I do?
Leave the house, take everyone with you, and call your gas utility from outside. Do not flip switches or light anything. Once the utility clears the home, call us and we will look at the igniter, valve, and burner.
Can self-clean damage an oven?
It can. The extreme heat sometimes takes out a thermal fuse, a control board, or the door lock motor. If your oven went dead right after a clean cycle, mention that when you call. It narrows the search considerably.
How long does a typical oven repair take?
Many visits wrap up in one trip when the failed part is a common element, igniter, or sensor. Control boards and specialty parts for older or imported ranges sometimes need ordering, which means a second short visit to install.
Do you work on wall ovens built into cabinets?
Yes. Built-ins need careful pulling from the cabinet so trim and wiring stay intact. We bring help when a double wall oven needs to come out. Tell us the brand and roughly how old it is when you call us.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call us or fill out the form and describe what you're hearing, seeing or smelling. Brand and rough age help. We ask a few questions up front so the likely parts ride along in the van.
- Step 2
We come look
A technician shows up in the window we set, pulls the unit out and tests it. Tight basement stairs and low bungalow ceilings are ordinary to us. You'll hear what's wrong before anything gets replaced.
- Step 3
You decide, we repair
We walk you through the fix and what it involves, then wait for your go-ahead. Most common parts are already on the truck. If something has to be ordered, we tell you the plan and follow up.

Why homeowners call us
- Damp-house know-howPortland laundry rooms grow mildew and basements stay wet. We know what moisture does to dryer vents, washer parts and control boards, so before we call a repair done we look at the room around the machine too.
- Unhurried visitsA rushed diagnostic misses things. We take the extra minutes to pull the panel, look behind the drum and test the drain line. Then we tell you plainly what failed and whether fixing it makes sense on that appliance.
- Every major brandWe're an independent shop, so the whole kitchen and laundry room is fair game: washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, ovens, dishwashers, freezers and disposals. A twenty-year-old unit gets the same careful look as a new digital one.
- Wide service reachHomeowners in five Western states reach us the same way. City bungalow, suburban split-level, a house down a gravel road. We set a visit and arrive with tools and common parts ready.
- All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Whirlpool, Samsung, GE, LG, Maytag, Bosch and more.
- Straight answersWhen a repair doesn't make sense, we tell you, sometimes before we even roll a truck.
